about the
west amboy volunteer fire department
The West Amboy Volunteer Fire Department(WAVFD) was founded on September 23rd, 1964. Ever since then, members of our community have been serving their neighbors! The WAVFD currently operates 6 Apparatus, including Engine 2911, Rescue Engine 2921, Water Tanker 2952, Rescue 2961, Light Rescue 2963, and Brush 2971. The department currently has 3 Chiefs, Each with the Radio Number, 2901 – Fire Chief, 2902 – 1st Assistant Chief, and 2903 – 2nd Assistant Chief. WAVFD operates an area of 37.74 sq. miles and serves a population of just over 1300!
Due to the low number of members, we have partnered with one of our neighboring fire departments. We have partnered with the Williamstown Volunteer Fire Department, which is just north of the Town of Amboy. With this fulltime partnership, the two departments get dispatched as one of the same. Any call either department receives, the other department also gets dispatched with them.
Currently, the fire department is located at 10 Cusson Drive. Our station currently has 3 Truck Bays with 6 truck spaces, 3 Offices, 3 Storage Rooms, a Radio room, a large meeting room, a full Kitchen, and 1.5 Bathrooms. We had a previous station located at 1355 State Route 69, Williamstown NY, 13167. This station was destroyed during an earthquake in our area on April 20th, 2002.
